The opening round of the Alliance Professional Baseball League playoffs is complete, and the stage is set for the semifinals. With two teams on byes, the field narrowed quickly, leaving just four contenders vying for a spot in the APBL World Series.
In the National League, the Cincinnati Reds fell short against the Los Angeles Angels, 297ā€“237. The Angels delivered one of their sharpest performances of the season, pulling away late to secure their place in the semifinals.
On the American League side, the Baltimore Orioles couldnā€™t keep pace with the Detroit Tigers. Behind a balanced team effort, the Tigers rolled to a 303ā€“238 victory, ending Baltimoreā€™s postseason hopes.
That leaves just four. The Texas Rangers and New York Yankees, each holding the leagueā€™s top seed and a first-round bye, now rejoin the action. The semifinals bring two heavyweight showdowns:
- Angels vs. Rangers (NL): Texas won both regular-season meetings (Weeks 5 and 17), but Los Angeles will be determined to avoid a three-game sweep.
- Tigers vs. Yankees (AL): New York also holds a 2-0 record over Detroit this year, taking matchups in Weeks 7 and 10.
Two wins separate these teams from the ultimate prize. By weekā€™s end, only two will remain, and the APBL World Series matchup will be set.
