Midseason momentum shifts as the playoff push begins
Week 12 in the Alliance Professional Baseball League was a turning point. With the regular season now past the halfway mark, every point—and every misstep—carries weight. The scoreboard lit up across the league, featuring a monster blowout from the Angels, a battle between the Yankees and White Sox, and a second straight statement win by the resurgent Tigers. Here's how it all shook out:
Game of the Week: Angels 367, Blue Jays 166 (+201)
Los Angeles delivered the highest point total of the week and the largest margin of victory all season, dismantling the Blue Jays in a 201-point blowout. It was the kind of performance that puts the league on notice—especially heading into tougher weeks. Toronto, now on a five-game slide, continues to search for answers after a promising start.
Cold Snap: Guardians Drop 4th Straight (+40)
The Cubs handled the Cleveland Guardians 281–241 in a solid all-around win. While not flashy, it was a necessary result for a Cubs team aiming to reassert itself. Meanwhile, Cleveland finds itself in dangerous territory, now on a four-game skid.
Statement Win Part II: Tigers 285, Rangers 234 (+51)
Detroit has now knocked off the Braves and the Rangers in back-to-back weeks, and this one wasn’t close. After flying under the radar most of the season, the Tigers are suddenly roaring into playoff conversation. Texas will need to bounce back quickly ahead of a massive showdown next week.
Top Dogs Hold the Line: Yankees 353, White Sox 275 (+78)
New York stays scorching hot, extending their win streak to four in a row. The White Sox, to their credit, posted their second-best score of the season, but it wasn’t enough against the league's top-rated team in the Power Rankings. Sometimes, the schedule just isn’t your friend.
Tight Tilt: Cardinals 257, Giants 244 (+13)
The defending champs from San Francisco had their four-game win streak snapped in a grind-it-out loss to St. Louis. These are the kinds of results that shape playoff seeding, and for the Giants, it's a reminder that every opponent in the NL has bite.
Other Scores:
- Reds 226, Red Sox 173 (+53): Cincy returns to form after a tough Week 11, keeping pace with the league’s elite.
- Braves 234, Orioles 213 (+21): Atlanta bounces back after last week’s loss, holding off a feisty Orioles squad.
Week 13 Matchups to Watch:
- Yankees vs Rangers: Two tier-one titans face off for the first time this season. Must-see fantasy baseball.
- Reds vs Cubs: Series split 1–1 lifetime. This one could swing playoff tiebreakers later.
- Angels vs Cardinals: A rematch from Week 2 when L.A. got the W. Cards are hotter now.
- Braves vs Giants: Atlanta already holds a win in this season series. Can they sweep the champs?
- Tigers vs Orioles: Detroit won Round 1, and they’re playing inspired ball right now.
- Guardians vs White Sox: Two teams at the bottom of the standings trying to right the ship.
- Red Sox vs Blue Jays: Toronto needs a bounce-back, and the Red Sox could be the right opponent.
We're officially into the back half of the APBL season—and the margin for error is shrinking by the week. See you after Week 13.
