APFL 2025 Draft is Underway

The 2025 Alliance Professional Football League (APFL) draft has officially kicked off, and the first selection in each of the two conferences has set the stage for what promises to be an exciting season ahead. The Denver Mustangs and the Minnesota SKOL made their selections, marking the beginning of a new era for their respective teams.

Both the AFC and NFC’s first picks of the draft were identical: running back Ashton Jeanty of Boise State. The dynamic playmaker, who made a name for himself with the Boise State Broncos, is now primed to make an immediate impact in the APFL.

Denver Mustangs (AFC) – A Bold Step After Championship Glory

As the defending APFL champions, the Denver Mustangs, under the leadership of GM Cody Wallinger, entered this year’s draft with high expectations. Wallinger, who oversaw a thrilling championship run last season, made an aggressive yet calculated decision with the first overall pick: Jeanty.

The Mustangs, fresh off their championship triumph, are in a unique position. With a roster already packed with talent, Wallinger's selection of Jeanty signals a commitment to ensuring their dynasty doesn’t just continue—it evolves. Known for his explosive speed, impressive vision, and playmaking ability, Jeanty brings the kind of versatility that could give Denver's offense the added dimension it needs to stay at the top. His selection was a clear statement that, even after a championship, the Mustangs aren’t standing still.

Minnesota SKOL (NFC) – A New Chapter Begins

In the other conference, Eric Slatken, who previously served as the GM of the Cleveland franchise, is beginning a new chapter as the leader of the Minnesota SKOL. Slatken’s first major decision was to pick Jeanty, marking the start of his new journey in Minnesota.

Slatken is hoping that Jeanty can become the centerpiece of his revamped roster. With the SKOL rebranding and Slatken at the helm, the pressure to rebuild and compete in the NFC is high. Jeanty’s combination of agility, strength, and playmaking potential provides the perfect foundation for a franchise looking to return to contention. Slatken’s decision to select Jeanty is more than just about adding a standout player—it’s about sending a message that the SKOL are ready to take on the challenge of the 2025 season.

The draft continues today, with each pick set to last six hours, and the clock will pause overnight from midnight to 6 AM Eastern. With a talent pool deep in skill and potential, the road to the 2025 APFL championship is officially underway. Stay tuned as the league’s next wave of stars is about to emerge.
