Brady Sits Down to #1 finally suffered its first loss of the season, and the team that delivered it wasted no time reclaiming the throne. Bearcats are back at No. 1, Teds Lasso lit up the highest score of the week, and Week 7 added another layer of chaos to a WRL season that keeps refusing to sit still.
For one week, it looked like the WRL might finally have found some stability at the top. Brady Sits Down to #1 had taken over the No. 1 Power Ranking in Week 6 while protecting the league’s only undefeated record, and the story seemed ready to become about how long perfection could survive with the throne attached to it. Instead, Week 7 reminded everyone that in this league, the top is never safe for long.
Black Dragon: The Throne Changes Hands Again
Bearcats put an end to Brady’s perfect season with a stunning 192.90-109.94 victory, knocking Brady from the ranks of the unbeaten and climbing back to No. 1 in the Power Rankings at .972. It was not just an upset. It was a statement, the largest margin of victory anywhere in the WRL this week, and it returned the Bearcats to the same perch they occupied back in Week 2. Perfection fell. Bearcats rose.
Black Dragon also produced the highest score in all of the WRL this week, and it came from Teds Lasso, who blasted Groot 195.50-147.42. That result gave Lasso a huge rebound performance while Groot, despite a respectable total, slipped to No. 13 in the Power Rankings. Another game we highlighted last week also delivered, as Lunatics beat Aviators 185.22-123.04. Lunatics surged up to No. 7 in the rankings, while the Aviators’ miserable run reached six straight losses.
Elsewhere, Diablo Valley Detectives beat Lucky Ass Ferg 136.66-104.64, and Here For The Beer handled defending champion Turd Ferguson 144.32-116.88. Music City Miracles kept building momentum with a 126.26-91.40 win over Maniax, extending the Miracles’ winning streak to three games while Maniax fell to six straight losses and posted the lowest score in the entire WRL this week.
Black Dragon entered Week 7 carrying the league’s biggest story, and by the time Monday was over it had delivered another one. Brady is no longer perfect, Bearcats are No. 1 again, and the region still has enough firepower to keep shaping the entire league.
Gold Dragon: Big Scores and a Brutal Heartbreaker
Gold Dragon did not produce the week’s main headline, but it certainly produced some of its wildest box scores. The cruelest result belonged to Mantis Mayhem, who scored 188.10 points and still lost to Crayon Crusaders 191.02-188.10. It was the kind of defeat that sticks with a team for a while, because Mayhem would have beaten 31 of the other 35 WRL teams with that total and still walked away empty-handed. Crusaders got the win. Mayhem got the week’s clearest Heartbreaker.
The region’s featured matchup from last week also delivered a meaningful result. CHAOS beat Fast Johnnie Syndicate 154.84-136.62, ending Syndicate’s five-game winning streak and steadying a CHAOS team that had started to wobble after its early-season rise. Even with the loss, Fast Johnnie remained fifth in the Power Rankings, while CHAOS climbed to No. 6.
The biggest Gold Dragon rout came from Unicorn Legends, who crushed Rochester Rabbits 168.52-99.02. That was not the biggest blowout in the WRL this week — Bearcats claimed that honor — but it was still a punishing performance that pushed Unicorn Legends back into the Top 15 at No. 12. NY Jackets also put together a strong showing in a 172.86-155.00 win over Average Joes, while The Lone Rangers edged Southern Sirens 127.28-124.70 in one of the region’s tighter games.
The final Gold Dragon result belonged to Totally Turtley, who beat Gridiron Grinders 127.48-106.92. Gold may not have supplied the week’s new No. 1 team, but it did what Gold Dragon usually does best: it created a little bit of everything, from heartbreak to streak-snapping to another reminder that scoring 188 points is no guarantee of happiness in this league.
Red Dragon: The Monarchs Survive, the Villains Strike, and the Dawgs Still Search
Red Dragon’s biggest drama came from the game we already knew had a chance to matter. Monarchs and Virginia Blackbeards was one of last week’s highlighted matchups, and it turned into the closest game in the entire WRL. The Monarchs survived 127.78-126.34, a margin of just 1.44 points, stretching their winning streak to five games and holding onto the No. 2 spot in the Power Rankings. The Blackbeards lost the game, but not much ground, remaining eighth overall.
The region’s ugliest win belonged to THE Ohio River Monsters, and ugly may actually be putting it kindly. The River Monsters beat Nauti Dawgs 115.44-113.72, a narrow escape that earned Ugly Win of the Season. For the Dawgs, the result was another painful step in the wrong direction. They are now 0-7 and remain the only winless team in the entire 36-team WRL.
Another highlighted game from last week turned into a blow to Rum Runners’ standing. Villains hammered Rum Runners 182.86-110.68, a result that raised Villains to No. 9 in the rankings while Rum Runners slid to No. 15 after another disappointing offensive showing. Boss Hoggs continued their climb by beating Coolidge Scorpions 191.70-145.08, pushing their winning streak to three and lifting them all the way to No. 3 in the Power Rankings.
The rest of Red Dragon kept producing streaks in both directions. Mad Scientist beat Boats N Hoes 171.38-163.14, winning a third straight after that rough 0-4 start and climbing into the Top 15 at No. 11. Garbage Points defeated E-Thugs 141.48-110.98, while E-Thugs’ losing streak reached five games.
Red Dragon did not produce the new No. 1 team this week, but it remains crowded with contenders. The Monarchs are still second, Boss Hoggs are now third, Villains are rising, and Mad Scientist has quietly fought all the way back into the league-wide conversation.
Power Rankings: Bearcats Back on Top
Week 7 reshuffled the top of the league again, and the standings now reflect just how punishing that Bearcats victory over Brady really was. Bearcats jumped from No. 3 back to No. 1, the Monarchs held firm at No. 2, and Boss Hoggs continued their rise to No. 3. Brady’s first loss dropped them to No. 4, while Fast Johnnie Syndicate rounded out the Top 5 despite having its winning streak snapped by CHAOS.
After Week 7, the Top 15 is:
- Bearcats — .972
- Monarchs — .954
- Boss Hoggs — .949
- Brady Sits Down to #1 — .931
- Fast Johnnie Syndicate — .861
- CHAOS — .838
- Lunatics — .801
- Virginia Blackbeards — .782
- Villains — .713
- Here For The Beer — .694
- Mad Scientist — .667
- Unicorn Legends — .657
- Groot — .653
- Mantis Mayhem — .593
- Rum Runners — .574
Three teams dropped out of the Top 15 this week: Music City Miracles, Aviators, and Lucky Ass Ferg. Moving in were Mad Scientist, Unicorn Legends, and Mantis Mayhem, giving the rankings a fresh look as the season turns toward its stretch run.
Week 8 Preview: Black Dragon Owns the Ranked Slate
Week 8 stays outside divisional play, and the Top 15 matchups are concentrated entirely in Black Dragon. The headliner is No. 1 Bearcats vs. No. 13 Groot, a game that now carries even more weight after Bearcats reclaimed the throne. Groot has been hanging around the rankings all season, but this is a chance for Bearcats to prove that Week 7 was not just a big upset — it was the start of another run at the top.
The other ranked Black Dragon matchup sends No. 7 Lunatics against No. 10 Here For The Beer. Lunatics enters off a 185-point week and continues to look dangerous, while Here For The Beer has quietly stayed inside the Top 10 and now gets a chance to make a louder statement.
There are no Top 15 matchups in Gold or Red, but a few other games still stand out. Brady Sits Down to #1 vs. Turd Ferguson is intriguing because Brady now has to answer its first loss against the defending champion. Aviators vs. Maniax is the kind of game where somebody badly needs relief, because both clubs enter on six-game losing streaks. In Gold Dragon, Rochester Rabbits vs. Fast Johnnie Syndicate offers a solid contrast between a team trying to regain its footing and one trying to restart momentum after a five-game winning streak ended. In Red Dragon, Monarchs vs. E-Thugs is worth watching simply because the streaks are so cleanly opposed: five straight wins for the Monarchs, five straight losses for E-Thugs.
Week 7 reminded the WRL that perfection is fragile and power is temporary. Brady finally fell, Bearcats climbed back to the top, and the race behind them grew even tighter.
The throne changed hands again.
