Two weeks remain in the 2026 APBL regular season, and the season has reached the point where every result now feels heavier than the one before it.
The playoff field is no longer a distant idea. It is almost here. Some teams are already in. Some are fighting for position. Some are still trying to keep the door from closing. And for Cincinnati, that door finally shut.
Week 20 did not completely rewrite the bracket, but it made the final stretch clearer. Chicago survived a serious scare and pushed its winning streak to fifteen. Miami won its sixth straight and reminded St. Louis that the National League still runs through more than one clubhouse. The Angels knocked off Baltimore and kept pressure on Texas in the AL West. Arizona handled business and protected the final National League playoff spot. San Francisco stayed alive. Atlanta remained close enough to matter.
This is no longer about early-season momentum or midseason conversation.
This is the final push.
The Streak Survives Again - Cubs 273, Braves 209
Atlanta had a chance to do the unthinkable.
For most of the week, the Braves looked like they might be the team to finally end Chicago’s run. Atlanta built the lead to 43 points after Tuesday and still carried a nine-point advantage through Friday. Against most teams, that would have been a comfortable enough position entering the weekend.
Against these Cubs, comfortable does not last long.
Chicago exploded for 60 points on Saturday while Atlanta went backward, and that one-night swing flipped the entire matchup. By the end of Saturday, the Cubs had turned a deficit into a 61-point lead and never looked back, finishing with a 273-209 victory.
The win extends Chicago’s streak to fifteen games and keeps the Cubs at the top of the APBL standings. The streak is no longer just impressive. It is becoming the kind of thing every opponent feels before the first pitch of the week.
Miami Makes Another Statement - Marlins 298, Cardinals 226
Miami and St. Louis gave the league one of the better matchups of Week 20, at least until the Marlins created separation late.
The game featured three lead changes, with Miami jumping ahead early before St. Louis grabbed the lead on Tuesday and held it through Thursday. By Friday, Miami had taken control again, building an 18-point advantage and continuing to stretch the gap through the weekend.
The final score was 298-226, and the Marlins walked away with their sixth consecutive victory.
Miami has already secured its playoff spot, but the Marlins are not playing like a team content with simply getting there. They remain in the hunt for the top overall position, and every win keeps pressure on Chicago. St. Louis is still in strong playoff shape, but this was a reminder that the top of the National League has more than one heavyweight.
Angels Clip Baltimore - Angels 253, Orioles 240
The Angels and Orioles delivered the closest margin of Week 20, and Los Angeles walked away with one of the more important wins on the board.
This matchup changed hands throughout the week. Los Angeles led Monday, Baltimore answered Tuesday, the Angels took it back Wednesday, and the Orioles reclaimed it Thursday. By Friday, Los Angeles grabbed the lead again and this time refused to give it back.
The Angels won 253-240, ending Baltimore’s five-game winning streak and keeping themselves directly in the AL West race. Texas still holds the No. 2 seed by tiebreaker, but the Angels are close enough to make every remaining week uncomfortable. The APBL is running out of schedule, and Los Angeles is still pushing.
Arizona Protects Its Seat - Diamondbacks 252, Phillies 172
Arizona entered Week 20 needing to handle business.
The Diamondbacks did exactly that.
Against Philadelphia, Arizona jumped out to the lead on Monday and never gave it back. The matchup never turned into the kind of battle it looked like it might be on paper, as the Diamondbacks controlled the game from start to finish and earned an 80-point victory.
That win matters because Arizona remains the fourth seed in the National League playoff picture. San Francisco is only one game back. Atlanta is two games back. The Diamondbacks do not have the luxury of coasting, and this was exactly the kind of week they needed: clean, decisive, and free of late drama.
Giants Keep Chasing - Giants 178, Reds 130
San Francisco still has Cincinnati’s number.
The Reds opened the week with a slight three-point lead on Monday, but that advantage disappeared quickly. Once the Giants moved ahead, Cincinnati never found its way back, and San Francisco finished with a 178-130 victory.
For the Giants, it was not a loud win, but it was a necessary one. At this point in the season, style matters less than survival. San Francisco remains one game behind Arizona for the final National League playoff spot and continues to keep pressure on the Diamondbacks.
For Cincinnati, the loss officially ends the playoff chase. The Reds have been part of the APBL postseason picture throughout the league’s early history, but 2026 will not include them. That is a hard turn for a franchise used to playing meaningful September baseball.
Boston Handles Sacramento - Red Sox 218, Athletics 116
Boston did what playoff teams are supposed to do against struggling opponents.
The Red Sox grabbed the lead Monday night and never let Sacramento back into the matchup. The lead grew as large as 106 points by Saturday before the Athletics trimmed it slightly on Sunday, but the final result was still a comfortable 218-116 Boston victory.
Sacramento has now lost six straight, while Boston continues to strengthen its position in the American League playoff field. Not every win needs fireworks. Some weeks are about taking the game in front of you, putting it away, and moving on.
Texas Rolls Cleveland - Rangers 292, Guardians 132
Texas kept its AL West position intact with a dominant win over Cleveland.
The Rangers took the lead on Monday and never looked back, eventually pulling away for a 160-point victory. The 292-point performance was one of the stronger showings of the week and helped Texas maintain its grip on the No. 2 seed in the American League.
Cleveland has had a difficult season, and Texas made sure Week 20 did not become one of those surprise moments that shake up the standings. The Rangers did not need drama. They needed a win, and they got it with room to spare.
Yankees Get One Back - Yankees 159, White Sox 126
The Yankees are no longer playing for the postseason, but they still found a way to get back into the win column.
The matchup against the White Sox was closer than New York probably wanted. The Yankees held slim leads Monday and Tuesday before Chicago flipped the game on Wednesday and Thursday, building a lead as large as 21 points. New York responded Friday, took the lead back, and held it through Sunday for a 159-126 victory.
For the Yankees, the win is about pride. For the White Sox, the loss is a missed chance to keep adding to what has still been their best APBL season to date.

Chicago remains at the top of the APBL Power Rankings at .979 after surviving Atlanta and stretching its winning streak to fifteen games. Miami sits right behind at .958 after its sixth straight win and continues to apply pressure near the top of both the standings and the league conversation.
The Angels and Cardinals are tied for third at .802, giving the Top Five a little extra tension heading into the final three weeks. Baltimore rounds out the group at .771 despite its loss to Los Angeles.

Playoff Watch

The Rangers still hold the tiebreaker over the Angels for the AL West position, but Los Angeles is close enough to make that race one of the most important remaining battles in the league.
The National League still has one true fight left. Chicago, Miami, and St. Louis remain locked into the top three positions, while Arizona holds the fourth seed. San Francisco is one game back, and Atlanta is two games back. Cincinnati has officially been eliminated, closing the postseason door on a franchise that has been used to being part of the APBL playoff conversation.

Week 21 Preview
Week 21 brings the final round of cross-league play, and the biggest game on the board is Texas against Miami.
The Marlins and Rangers meet for the first time, and the matchup carries serious weight. Miami is trying to keep pressure on Chicago near the top of the league, while Texas is trying to protect its AL West position from the Angels. If Texas slips and Los Angeles wins, the Angels can move into control of the division and the No. 2 seed in the American League. That makes this first-ever meeting a major game with immediate consequences.
Baltimore and St. Louis also bring history, with the two teams tied 2-2 lifetime. Both clubs are positioned for the playoffs, but both still have seeding to protect. Atlanta and Los Angeles meet with the Braves holding a 3-1 lifetime advantage, though the Angels won the most recent matchup in Week 18 of 2025. That game carries different stakes now, with Los Angeles trying to keep climbing and Atlanta trying to stay alive.
San Francisco meets New York in a matchup where the Giants own a 3-1 lifetime edge and badly need another win to stay close to Arizona. The Diamondbacks face Boston for the first time, and Arizona cannot afford to give away ground with the Giants right behind them. Cincinnati and Sacramento meet for the first time with both teams looking for pride, while Chicago faces Cleveland with the Cubs trying to extend the streak to sixteen.
