One week ago, the Chicago Cubs had arrived.

This week, they took control.

The hottest team in the APBL walked into Week 14 facing the top team in the Power Rankings, the No. 1 seed in the National League, and one of the most consistent franchises of the season. Miami had been the measuring stick. Miami had been the team sitting above the field. Miami had been the club everyone else was chasing.

Then the Cubs put 368 on the board.

Chicago's 368-296 victory over the Marlins did more than extend a winning streak. It shifted the top of the league. The Cubs have now won nine consecutive games, moved into first place in the NL West, claimed the No. 1 overall playoff seed, and posted the second-highest single-game score of the season. The matchup also became the highest-scoring game of the year, with the two teams combining for 664 points.

At some point, a streak becomes a statement. At some point, a statement becomes a warning. The Cubs are no longer asking to be included in the conversation. They are driving it.

Chicago Takes the Top Spot - Cubs 368, Marlins 296

The Game of the Week delivered everything it promised, except suspense over who controlled it.

Chicago led this matchup from wire to wire, even as Miami continued applying pressure throughout the week. The Marlins pulled within 12 points on Wednesday, but that was as close as the league's top Power Ranking team would get. Every time Miami tried to make the game uncomfortable, the Cubs answered with another surge.

The final numbers were massive. Chicago finished with 368 points, the second-highest single-game score of the 2026 season, while Miami still posted a strong 296 in defeat. Together, they produced the highest-scoring matchup of the year. The two clubs have now split their season series, but the immediate impact belongs to Chicago. The Cubs now control the NL West, the league's top playoff seed, and the loudest storyline in the APBL.

Atlanta Knocks Down St. Louis - Braves 274, Cardinals 164

The Cardinals have spent most of the season near the top of the league, but Week 14 continued a rough stretch for St. Louis.

Atlanta led this matchup from start to finish and avenged its earlier loss to the Cardinals with a commanding 110-point victory. The win evened the season series at one game apiece and gave the Braves one of their strongest performances of the year. Combined with Cincinnati's loss, Atlanta also moved into second place in the NL East.

For St. Louis, the loss carries a heavier meaning. The Cardinals have now dropped two straight games against tough opponents, and with Chicago beating Miami, St. Louis no longer controls the NL West. The Cardinals remain very much in the championship conversation, but the room has changed. For the first time in a long time, they are not standing at the front of it.

Texas Wins the AL Showdown - Rangers 281, Orioles 225

Baltimore and Texas entered Week 14 with major American League implications attached to their matchup, and the Rangers walked away with the result they needed.

Texas held a narrow lead for much of the week before Baltimore briefly flipped the matchup on Friday and took a 17-point advantage. The Rangers responded quickly, regaining control on Saturday and eventually pulling away for a 56-point victory. The win evens the season series between the two clubs and tightens the top of the American League race.

Baltimore, Texas, and Boston now all sit at 9-5, making every tiebreaker, total point, and remaining matchup feel just a little heavier. Baltimore still holds the No. 1 seed in the American League, but Texas made sure the Orioles felt the pressure.

Boston Handles the Battle of the Sox - Red Sox 331, White Sox 222

The Battle of the Sox once again went to Boston.

The Red Sox led wire to wire and finished with one of the strongest scores of the week, defeating Chicago 331-222. Boston is now 2-0 against the White Sox this season, completing the series sweep and securing the head-to-head advantage should it ever matter later.

The loss does not erase what the White Sox have accomplished recently. Chicago still sits at 5-9 and is enjoying its best APBL season to date, but Boston reminded them that the climb gets steeper when the opponents get stronger. The Red Sox are now part of the three-way traffic jam at 9-5 in the American League, and they are not going anywhere quietly.

Angels Cruise Past Cleveland - Angels 218, Guardians 95

Los Angeles took care of business against Cleveland and never allowed the matchup to develop much drama.

The Angels led wire to wire and finished with a 123-point victory, keeping themselves firmly in the American League playoff picture at 8-6. Cleveland, meanwhile, fell to 2-12 and added another difficult scoring week to its season résumé. The Guardians' 95 points now gives them five of the bottom ten single-team scoring outputs of the year.

For the Angels, this was the kind of week contenders have to win. No extra fireworks needed. Just handle the assignment and keep moving.

Sacramento Stuns New York - Athletics 160, Yankees 136

This may have been the most surprising result of the week.

Sacramento entered Week 14 riding a seven-game losing streak, while New York was trying to stay within striking distance of the final American League playoff spot. Instead, the A's found a way to beat the Yankees 160-136 and even the season series between the clubs.

For New York, the loss hurts. The Yankees posted their lowest score of the season and now sit one game back in the playoff picture. In September, games like this are the ones teams remember. Not because they were dramatic, but because they were there to be taken.

Arizona Dominates Cincinnati - Diamondbacks 311, Reds 197

Arizona wasted no time putting Cincinnati on its heels.

The Diamondbacks opened Monday with a 66-point lead, stretched the advantage as high as 139 by Thursday, and finished with a 114-point victory. The win evens the season series between the two teams at one game apiece and keeps Arizona firmly in the National League playoff picture.

Cincinnati, meanwhile, has now lost six consecutive games. What once looked like a strong playoff position has turned into a fight to stay relevant. The Reds are not out of anything yet, but the ground beneath them is getting a little less steady every week.

Giants Edge Philadelphia - Giants 218, Phillies 202

San Francisco earned a measure of revenge against Philadelphia in the closest matchup of Week 14.

The Giants led for much of the week before the Phillies briefly stole a six-point lead after Friday's games. San Francisco answered on Saturday and held on for a 16-point victory, evening the season series between the two clubs.

At 7-7, the Giants remain stuck just outside the National League playoff bubble, but context matters. They play in one of the toughest divisions in the APBL, and their record would feel far different in almost any other neighborhood. The Giants are still alive. They just have no room to waste weeks.

Power Rankings

Miami remains No. 1 in the Power Rankings at .938, even after losing to Chicago. That may feel strange at first glance, but the rankings continue to reflect the full season résumé, not one result. The Marlins still have the body of work to hold the top spot.

Chicago, however, is coming fast. The Cubs climbed to .896 and now sit second in the rankings, matching their rise in the standings. St. Louis falls to third at .875 after a second consecutive loss, while the Angels and Red Sox round out the Top Five.

Playoff Picture

If the playoffs started today, Baltimore would remain the No. 1 seed in the American League, followed by Texas, Boston, and Los Angeles. The Orioles, Rangers, and Red Sox are all tied at 9-5, making the race for seeding incredibly tight as the league heads toward the final eight weeks of the regular season.

In the National League, the biggest change comes at the top. Chicago now holds the No. 1 seed, with Miami sitting second, St. Louis third, and Arizona fourth. The Cubs' rise has officially reshaped the bracket, while the Diamondbacks continue holding onto the final playoff position.

Week 15 Preview

Week 15 brings cross-league play back to the schedule, with National League teams matching up against American League opponents for the third time this season, not including Rivalry Week.

The biggest spotlight belongs to Chicago and New York. The Cubs enter the week riding a nine-game winning streak and have won all three lifetime matchups against the Yankees. New York is coming off a damaging loss to Sacramento and badly needs a response, but the timing could not be much worse. Chicago is rolling, and right now the Cubs look like a team nobody wants to see.

Boston and St. Louis also brings plenty of weight. The Cardinals have won both previous meetings between the clubs, including a 51-point victory in Week 14 of 2025, but St. Louis enters this matchup trying to stop a two-game losing streak. Boston, meanwhile, is tied atop the American League by record and looking for another win that strengthens its playoff position.

Baltimore and San Francisco could be dangerous as well. The Giants have won all three previous meetings between the franchises by an average margin of 102 points, but Baltimore enters as the No. 1 seed in the American League and will be looking to change that history.

Elsewhere, Cincinnati faces Texas while trying to end a six-game losing streak. Atlanta and Sacramento meet for the first time. Miami opens a new chapter against the White Sox, and Cleveland faces Arizona in another first-time matchup between the current GMs.

Week 14 belonged to Chicago.

Week 15 will tell us whether anyone can slow them down.
