APBL Draft Board Set, Draft Rescheduled for March 28

APBL Draft Board Set, Draft Rescheduled for March 28

The board is set. The teams know their spots. And the road to the 2026 Alliance Professional Baseball League season has officially begun—even if it took a little unexpected detour along the way.

The APBL Draft Order Show unfolded live on Discord, where league members watched the board take shape through the league’s signature element of chance. Team logos were pulled, the wheel spun, dice rolled, and the board flipped in dramatic fashion until the final order was locked in.

When the dust settled, the Chicago Cubs emerged with the coveted first overall pick, putting them on the clock when the draft finally begins.

The full draft order is now official:
1. Chicago Cubs
2. Oakland Athletics
3. Miami Marlins
4. Baltimore Orioles
5. Philadelphia Phillies
6. Texas Rangers
7. Boston Red Sox
8. Atlanta Braves
9. Los Angeles Angels
10. Cincinnati Reds
11. New York Yankees
12. San Francisco Giants
13. Cleveland Guardians
14. Chicago White Sox
15. Arizona Diamondbacks
16. St. Louis Cardinals

The order will snake throughout the draft, meaning the Cardinals will immediately follow their 16th pick with the first selection of Round 2, while the Cubs will have to wait through thirty-plus selections before picking again.

But while the board was ready, the draft itself had other plans.

Shortly after entering the Yahoo draft room for what was supposed to be the league’s March 7 draft, an unexpected rules twist surfaced. Yahoo Fantasy Baseball introduced a new setting this season that required draft order confirmation in a second location within the league setup. While the order had been entered correctly in one area, the additional setting had not been activated.

The result? Yahoo automatically randomized the draft order once the room opened.

Even with the draft timer set to 15 seconds and every team placed on auto-draft, Yahoo still required roughly ten seconds per pick to process selections. That meant the entire draft would have stretched well beyond an hour just to recreate the original board order.

Rather than force league members to sit through a procedural grind, the Commissioner called an audible.

The 2026 APBL Draft has officially been rescheduled for March 28 at 6:00 PM, giving the league a clean slate and ensuring the draft unfolds the way it was meant to.

The timing still keeps the league comfortably on schedule. The APBL season will begin on March 30, aligning with Week 2 of the Major League Baseball calendar, as MLB’s unusual opening week schedule creates only a partial slate of games.

That gives General Managers just under a month to prepare draft boards, scout player pools, and begin the strategic chess match that defines the APBL season.

Because once the draft begins, the talking stops and the building starts.

And in a league where a season can turn on a single waiver move, a late-round steal, or one perfectly timed lineup decision, the next few weeks may prove just as important as the games themselves.

The board is set.

Now the real work begins.
